My family loves this. It tastes slightly like biscuits and sausage.

Mock Bisquick:
5 cups plain flour
1/4 cup baking powder
2 T sugar
1 t salt
1 cup your choice of fats (beef tallow here)
Mix dry ingredients and cut in fat. Use as you would Bisquick; 2 cups mix with approx. 2/3 cup water. Store in refrigerator.
This looks quick and easy, so I think I will add it to my menu for next week. Have you ever tried the mock Bisquick with half wheat or spelt?
ReplyDeleteJoy
No, but I want too! :-)
ReplyDeleteThis one is the "people's choice" around here. It tastes like sausage with the rosemary in the bread. Hope your crew likes it!
This sounds really good! I just wonder about the 'fat' of choice: is it really 1 whole cup to the 5 cups flour? I've never used that much fat in a crust before.
ReplyDeletePS. How's the Kefir coming? I am trying it in Almond Milk. Have you tried it that way?
Hello ValerieAnn!
ReplyDeleteThis lady uses less fat:

That would probably make the "light" version.
It's not really a crust, it is more like a biscuit ;-)
The kefir is wonderful!!!!
This has the best flavor! It stays kinda sweet and yet will get good and curdy. I love it!
No, I haven't tried that. I have made almond and rice milk before.
Will you post a recipe???? :-)
Hey Donna,
ReplyDeleteI actually bought 'Silk Almond Milk' for the first time to try out because my cholesterol is up a bit. Sorry, I didn't make it from scratch.
I heard you could make kefir out of Almond Milk so I just put them in there! Came out great!
I am so glad the kefir grains work for you. And yes, it has a wonderful flavor. Of course I only have tried these particular grains, so you know better than I if you have tried another set of grains. Yours must be growing. Mine are as big as half dollars!
Have a great day Kefir buddy!
ValerieAnn,
ReplyDeleteYes, okay, I see what you did!
Neat-o, I'll have to try that too. I love almond milk and uhm, you know they have a dark chocolate flavor!?!?
Yes, they have grown much. I've shared some, froze some, and ate a few too ;-)
I can't help but wonder if they can somehow be converted into water/juice grains....just a thought.
