I keep paper towels, torn into 6 squares, tucked in my spice drawer and when I need to grease a pan, I just pull one of the little squares out! I dip into the shortening and get just a dab in the center and spread thinly over the pan.
No mess- yah!

That is the kick in the pants I need to stop using the spray. I love my spray and always fall back to it, but it is expensive and wasteful. Shame on me.
I am making your rolls tommorrow. I made butter this weekend and had quite a bit of buttermilk left over, plus I had to pick up regular yeast as I only had the instant. I am going to post on this and link to your blog...can't wait to sink my teeth into these. Also I would have a hard time getting grain across the border. I may sneak some back when we go to Maine in the spring. Thanks
Thanks MinMom,
Walton's Feed is a little closer to you so I wasn't sure--
Thanks for posting!
Making butter-- do you get milk at a good deal somewhere? How much milk does it take to make a pound of butter? I have only made small amounts by shaking milk in a cup! :-)

Have you considered getting a Misto? You pour in any oil you want, pump it, and spray. This way you can use the regular oil you would use anyways for cooking, there is no trans-fat (which shortening usually has), and you are not being wasteful (no paper towels). We have one for olive oil - good for sauteeing - but will get another for grapeseed oil after I move. Another idea might be to use coconut oil instead of shortening (but still to use squares as you say) - it is very healthy and does not have trans-fats.
THANKS FOR THE INFO M!
I HAVE NEVER HEARD OF THAT BUT YOU HAVE MY CURIOSITY PEAKED!
I WILL HAVE TO LOOK INTO IT!
HOW DOES IT DO WITH CHEAP/FRAGILE BAKING PANS? DOES IT DISCOLOR LIKE COOKING SPRAY OR COOK AWAY LIKE SHORTENING?
THANKS FOR POSTING.
