Ok, so this post is not frug-al but it is a few other -als!:-)
I was thinking about a few verses from the Bible the other day, and several applications for them. Here's the verses, then I'll tell ya a few applications that I think they can and do apply to;
Prov 28:7 Whoso keepeth the law is a wise son: but he that is a companion of riotous men shameth his father.
Prov 13:20 He that walketh with wise men shall be wise: but a companion of fools shall be destroyed.
1 Cor 15:33 Be not deceived: evil communications corrupt good manners.
Ok, now that we have the verses, let's look at applications.
Let's suppose that my son...we'll call him 'junior' ...has a friend...we'll call him 'mate'. Mate and junior have played together and hung out together but mate starts hanging around another fellow that we'll call..umm.. 'dude'. Dude is known for being a 'wild child'(Prov 20:11) and oft in trouble. Well would the mother of junior, we'll call her Mommie, be wise to allow little junior to remain in close contact with mate or would it be more wise of Mommie to start putting distance between mate and junior since mate is now hanging around with 'dude'?
Now, before I go further, it's very logical to conclude that 'dude' has likely influenced mate and that they both will influence junior, right? Yeah, I think so.
(Wouldn't you think that even James Dobson would agree on a philosophical level? Ok, ok, I was just trying to get another -al word in.)
But, when we look back up (go ahead and look) at the verses from the Bible, we see that the God and Maker of all mankind said it is so! Now I don't know about you, but I'm for sure not going to call God's hand on this one! I believe Him!
Ok, now let's look at the political part. If candidate A, we'll call him ,hmmm, Hollywood's Hero(HHfor short), is in a race against, hmmm, Former POW (FP for short), and HH has friendships with a great deal of 'dudes'....should that sway your vote? Ok, let's be practical here. We must ask ourselves if these 'dudes' are really 'dudes', you know; "are they really THAT bad?" Yeah, by their own confessions, they are really 'dudes'. Now, logical conclusion: not good. Biblical conclusion: just look back up at those verses again. Yeah, those.
Yep, methinks they still apply, don't you?
Ok, some examples of how these verses have been true.
Have you ever heard a mother say at her son's sentencing; "he just got with the wrong crowd"?
You ever heard of a teenager saying; "I was just doing what they were doing"?
You ever heard a woman saying; "I didn't think it was against the law, I was just doing what he told me"?
How about a convicted criminal saying; "it all started when I met 'so and so' "?
Yeah, you know you've heard that stuff, right?
Ok, now, a little story:
I know of a story that happened back in the late '50's or early 60's. (Yes, this is a true story.) There was a little boy who had some real 'dudes' for friends. Those friends decided to break into a bubblegum machine and steal the money (and probably the gum). Well, little boy just happened to be with them and was shocked, but found himself with them when they decided to do this little deed. Well, you know where little boy ended up, right? Yep, he got in just as much trouble as the other boys, even though he was only associated with them, not an actual participant. Yes, the old 'guilt by association' or 'companions' as the Bible often reffers to them.
And we all know these stories.
But, to conclude--does it matter who our kids run with? Does it matter who our President has been a 'companion' to?
Prov 1:5 A wise man will hear, and will increase learning; and a man of understanding shall attain unto wise counsels:Prov 1:6 To understand a proverb, and the interpretation; the words of the wise, and their dark sayings.Prov 1:7 The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge: but fools despise wisdom and instruction.
May God give us wisdom and understanding and keep us from foolishness......Biblically, practically, personally, logically, politically, etc.

If we hold up a measure of accountability to one candidate, it's important that same measure of accountability must be held to the other.
For FP those acquaintances would be Charles Keating (The Keating Five) and G. Gordon Liddy.
Ultimately, God is in control, as He's been in control with the terrible president we've had for 8 years.
When it comes to politics we all have our views. :)
Keating and Liddy are of no comparison to Jesse Jackson, Jeremiah Wright, Acorn, Bill Ayers, Louis Farrakhan, etc.
Those men hate America. Those men are radicals and racists. Farrakhan says that 'blacks are the chosen race of Allah'.
Those men hate whites and love socialism.
Obama just said that he wants to 'spread the wealth around'. That is socialism. It's socialism to take from the rich and give to the poor. And it's wrong. Capitalism is what's made America great. Socialism will do much damage to her greatness.
And, by the way, I'm not wealthy. But through Capitalism, I always have the right to work to attain more. Through Socialism, if I made more, they'd take more.
And by the way -I love Allan Keyes and would vote for him ANY DAY! You can watch him on Youtube by the way. He's a great man! Absolutely brilliant!
But Lyn,
I've always wondered how a Christian can vote for a pro-abortion candidate. I did not start voting until I became a Christian and that issue alone is what drove me to register to vote.
God bless you Lyn and thanks for your comments!
Our pastor was talking about this tonite at church. He said he ran with the wrong group when he was young and actually got put in jail when the friends stole something. He didnt steal anything but was found guilty by association and got 40 hours of community service. It does matter who you hang out with.
