For breakfast, I made Laura's "Mom is Great Cake". While mixing it up I heard, "Hey -what are you doing?" "Making 'Mom is Great She Makes Us Breakfast Cake'." A few minutes later, "Hey, what are you doing?" (Ladies, you know what this means right?) "Do you need something?" "Can you come in here and make out a ticket for me?" ;-) Anyway, I doubled her recipe and the kids gobbled it up but they did request more chocolate chips in it next time. 'magine that!
We then had some group time around the computer doing a little video research. That's always fun! And it usually ends up with a bit of 'music investigation'. (We love music!) We sometimes will gather around with a bunch of guitars and 'play'. (Yeah, I mean that in the literal sense.)
I then had to usher everyone off to their 'formal' studies. "Big boys, get started on your math and you two little peeps- get your readers!" And off I went to get half-way prepared to meet the rest of the day.
"Hey Mom, am I doing this right?" "Yes, but you need to write a little neater because if I can't figure out what this number is...."
"Ok, little peeps, get 'the box' out while I finish getting ready." (Our box has puzzles, lace up cards, tangrams, play money with price tags and items to set up a store, and some other things in it.) "Big boys, are you on your reading assignments yet?"
Often the little ones are given a phonics lesson during this time and a math lesson but I cut them some slack because of my other lessons planned.
"Mom can I write something on the board so I can ask you a question?" "Sure." "Ok, see this word?" (eatin') "Why did they put that little mark right there?"......
Lunch was fixed and served and often we go outside afterwards but we only went for a few minutes today.
We then had timed reading drills from our Victory Drill Book. A great resource for home-schoolers! I make all of them do this from time to time and boys are so competitive that they think it's just grand. Sissy doesn't even think too much about competition, but rather, is she getting better than the 'last time'.
We then had oral math drills. The older boys had to recite x's tables and the little two had to do addition and subtraction facts.
"Ok, clear everything up fellas. We have to run to town to pick up a few things." "Can we please get a couple of boxes of cereal? We've ate oatmeal, rice, grits, and mushy stuff for days!" "No complaining, but I will consider it. Now, go get yourselves ready."
"Hey, what are you doing?" "Do you need something?" (I just cut through the chase this time.) "I need you to make a phone call for me." ....
"Ok, is everybody ready?" ...."Why don't you have your socks and shoes on? I told you that you didn't need to wear you sandals." "I thought you meant that I didn't need to but that I could if...." "I told her! I told her!" "MOoOOOoom! He's making fun of me!" "She's so sensitive!" "MooOOOmm! He said that I'm sensitive!" "You are sensitive but this is not the time to be. YOU, stop bugging your sister. I'll decide when it's time to get on to her and tell her if she's being TOO sensitive. Now, get your shoes and socks on."......
So, off to Kroger we go!
Our Kroger has free coffee so that's always a treat!
DH called and dropped hints about hamburgers 'just this once' so I drove through Wendy's on the way home. If it's got to be fast food, at least they offer chili and cheap salads! But it was a treat to not have to cook tonight after running to the store.
Once back home, meat is sorted out, groceries put away, etc. Then, we set in to haircuts! All 5 boys had haircuts. (Sissy has never had her hair cut.) Some of the boys beg for haircuts and some beg not to have hair cuts. 'magine that! (Those who know them, guess which didn't want haircuts!)
Then baths were given and some asked for more food. So, I sliced up some sourdough bread that I made yesterday and grilled it in a little butter and melted some cheese on top. I also gave them some yummy green grapes.
Then everyone's teeth was brushed and flossed. (At least I hope so;-)
Then a couple of us goofed around with guitars, which is always entertaining. Toys and clothes were put away. We read from Proverbs, said our prayers, then everyone got a kiss! Lights out!
And then I did a few things in the kitchen ...then cuddled up with my laptop and my bedtime tea! :-) And that.....is a day in the life of me!
Now, what was it that I was supposed to do before I went to bed? :-)
