Chocolate Dipped Cookies

(This recipe was at the store on a Land O Lakes display. One of my coupon 'scouts' spotted it and picked it up for me! )
COOKIE:
1 1/2 cups of powdered sugar
1 cup softened butter
1 egg
1 1/2 t vanilla
2 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
1 t cream of tartar
1 t baking soda
GLAZE:
1 (12 ounce) package semi-sweet chocolate chips
2 T shortening
*finely chopped nuts (I used almonds, pecans may be the best)
DIRECTIONS:
1. Combine powdered sugar, butter, egg and vanilla in a large bowl. Beat at medium speed, scraping bowl often, until creamy. Reduce speed to low; add lour, cream of tartar and baking soda. Beat until mixed well. Divide dough into fourths. Cover and refrigerate at least 1 hour.
2. Heat oven to 375. Roll each fourth (keeping remaining dough refrigerated) into 4 (10 inch) ropes. Cut each rope into 4 (2 1/2 inch) pieces. The recipe calls for you to shape into crescents, mine are more like hearts! Place on ungreased cookie sheets. Bake 8 to 10 minutes or until set. Cookies do not brown. Cool completely.
3. Combine chocolate chips and shortening in small microwave-safe bowl. Microwave 1 to 2 minutes until melted. Dip half of each cookie into melted chocolate. Sprinkle with chopped nuts. Let stand until set!
