CHOCO-WHEAT CAKE WITH WHITE ICING

CAKE:
3 cups whole wheat flour
5 tablespoons cocoa (I used black cocoa)
2 teaspoons baking soda
1 3/4 cups sugar
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup oil
2 tablespoons vinegar
2 teaspoons vanilla
2 1/4 cups cold water
1 cup chocolate chips (opt)

Stir the dry ingredients together in a bowl. Add the liquid ingredients and beat until almost smooth. Pour into greased and floured 9 x 13 inch pan and bake at 350 degrees for about 30 minutes.
FROSTING:
1/3 c shortening*
1/4 cup butter
2 cups powdered sugar
1 t vanilla
Beat until fluffy and frost!

*I now would use all butter.
