This week, I have a question! Have you noticed these little tiny labels on the meat lately in the grocery store? What's that about?!?!?!? Where is our meat from???? AND, what are their standards for processing beef? Are their standards better? Worse? Are their slaughter houses regulated? By who? How long is the meat in transit? And why can't our country raise it's own cows? Isn't hamburgers an American food? :-)
Has anyone else noticed these? Does it matter to any of you? Or am I the only one wondering about this today???? :-)
Well, that's my KitchenTip/Question this week! *They're putting weird stickers on our meat!*
And I don't know why!

I haven't noticed it in my supermarket, but I wish I could afford to buy a local grass fed beef. I would love to raise my own if hubby would let me. It's scary to not know where your meat comes from. It all should come from the US to help our farmers. Great Blog!
I haven't bought beef at a store for over 10 years, so I wouldn't know... but I do wonder about pork and poultry. Have you checked into local sources of beef? I buy mine direct from the farm and pay $2.36 per pound, including processing. That's for ALL cuts -- steak, roast, hamburger, etc.
I also have not bought store beef in a while. So, I have not noticed any stickers. We buy a 1/2 beef each year from a local rancher and it is so much better then store bought meat. We also raise hogs so we don't buy pork either. I will have to pay attention to see if the chicken I buy has any weird stickers on it.
I hadn't noticed that on mine, but I buy mine from our military commissary, so I don't know if they have the same regulations or not.
I get my beef by the side from a local farm. I know exactly where it comes from, and it's a lot cheaper for good quality grass fed beef then you'd ever get at the store.
I noticed that too!
I was wondering...all we all the same country now?
I haven't noticed those stickers, but they would definitly concern me for a variety of reasons. One most important to me is the over-regulating of every industry in our nation and then letting in unregulated products from other nations at a lower price. We won't have any industry soon if that contiues!!!
"Are we all the same country now?"
In answer to that question, the conspiracy theorist in me wants to say, "yes"...or at least they are doing everything they can to further that agenda.
Try googling "North American Union" and "amero".

Hmmm, maybe they are telling you the cows live where they aren't likely to have Mad Cow disease? I don't really know. I do know beef is getting more and more pricey, alas! My eyes are wide open for a good sale on sirloin, then I plan to stock my freezer.
The sticker is telling you where the cow came from. The cows were imported and then processed in the US. This labeling is a new requirement so that people will know where the meat originated from. But it is all processed in the US. But being involved in raising beef cattle makes one wish that everyone would by US meat. Of course, that is not always possible.
I hope that clears up some of the questions for you.

Aren't we suppose to support Amercian products of all kind? Keep the money in America.
Just my 2 cents... after learning about WHERE and HOW cows are raised and slaughtered, we ONLY buy from a farmer... Processed at a real home town place! FEED LOTS are horrible places.... Not a strand of grass in sight, cows in their own river of manure, pumped full of stuff you don't even want to know about.... Just wrong!
I don't think a label really MEANS anything! JMO!
