We love layered salads at my house, me especially! I love to see what I can SNEAK in them!
This one had romaine lettuce from the store, but the rest was from our garden. Cherry tomatoes, yellow pear tomatoes, cucumbers, bell peppers, and green onions.
I've been known to put green peas in them, shredded carrots, boiled eggs, leftover ham and bacon, rice and other grains, sprouted beans and grains, some fruits-berries are good, nuts and seeds, celery, onions- love red ones, different greens- spinach is the favored, and its especially great with a healthy, home-made dressing! I love yogurt, and oil and vinegar based dressings. I also try to SNEAK things in those too! ;-)

I read your blog all the time, you post about your garden alot, and I have a question..have you ever grown yellow watermelon? we planted them this year and they are sprouting, but not sure when to pick them, any idea?! Thank you so much for your time
Angela,
No I haven't grown them but they sound really neat!
With the regular ones, I wait until they are in full dark green color. You will notice a difference in the color. Also, the spot on the bottom will be yellow when ripe, usually.
Hope that helps, some! :-)
Oh sorry, one more thing-
usually with pumpkins, melons, etc
you know they're ready when they easily pull loose from the vine/stem. :-)The stem kinda dries out.
