Fresh Ground Wheat

I can't imagine anything better than freshly ground wheat!
I first began to grind my own about 12 years ago. I became aware of the nutritional void of white flour and its fiber-less state. I and my family have grown to love fresh-baked bread.
If you are just learning, don't give up, hard work pays off! And yes, I sometimes still bomb a loaf from time to time.
Here is a site that sells mills and has some good recipes: http://www.magicmillusa.com/recipes.php

HAPPY BAKING!

Hi - I stumbled upon your blog while researching mills/grinders. I just inherited a Magic Mill wheat grinder from my 90 year old Grandma and I'm so excited I can barely stand it. I'm ready to jump into the world of fresh ground wheat!
What kind of mill do you have? I thought I read that you had one similar to the one I just received. If so I am needing a couple small tips. I know you're a busy Mom so I appreciate any help you can offer. Thanks!

Anissa,
Hello! So glad you stumbled here!!!

I used to have a Magic Mill III, perhaps like yours. :)
I had it for somewhere around 14 years. I dropped it off of a high shelf and it cracked the side, a couple of years later it started sparking inside...not good.

I bought a refurbished Whisper/Wonder Mill last year.
In spite of its name, its not much quieter, but a great machine.

I would be happy to answer any questions if I can ;-)

Hi Donna,
Thanks for emailing me back!
The Magic Mill I got is SUPER old. It was my Grandma's and she just passed it along to me for my bday. She isn't exactly sure when she bought it but if I had to guess I'd say it was 60's or early 70's. This thing is OLD. :)
The part I can't quite figure out is the manual hand crank that it came with. She never used it because she didn't have a need to, but I'd love to know how to use it in case of emergencies when there isn't any power. It's not urgent to figure it out, but just something I want to be able to do. I've looked online and can't find anything that is helpful. Did you have a crank with your old mill?

Thanks again for taking time to email with me. :)

Anissa,
Mine was electric.

You might could write the company who made it and get more info. A net search and/or a youtube search might product some instructions too.

Sorry, I'm probably not much help with that particular mill, but once you get it working and milling- :-) I would be happy to help in any way that I can as far as wheat, etc.

Oh, another thing, the Magic Mill I had is no longer in production and the company VitalMill, is the one that made that appears to have taken over so they MIGHT be able to help you with yours! Hope so!
