Donna, you are one busy woman. I don't check your site for 2 days (rare occurance but we had something going on at the farm this weekend) I come back and you have like 10 posts on recipes. WOW. You amaze me. This recipe on pies, do I cook them according to package directions? There are times when we have 2 for 1 sales on these biscuits and I never buy them but now I may. HAve you posted something on biscuits before? I suck at making them....no really suck

MinMom,
I used to not buy them either but they are not AS BAD as I thought. Lower in fat than I thought.

You bake the meat pies until they are lightly golden on top and bottom, at temp on can.

Yes, I have others on biscuits!

***Be careful with these, the middle is hard to get done. It may be best to fix in small pans, like pie pans. But they are good enough for a little trouble.****

****These are done on cheap buns from the breadstore but mini ones could be made on canned biscuits.***

5) My family used to deep fry them and dip them in cinnamon and sugar. Sorta like a donut. You can dip them in cin and sugar and bake, even twist them a bit before baking.

6) You can top chicken casseroles with them (if all ingredients are cooked, ex. pre-cooked chicken).

7) The kids like turkey hot dogs cut in half and baked in them. This is also a nice finger food at parties. Some use smokies in them.

8)Make them with ham and cheese, like the meat pies.

9) Stuff them with fruit to make fruit pies.

10) Spread on seasoned butter or cream cheese and serve in the place of rolls.

I worked AND I MEAN WORKED at learning how to make a decent biscuit some years ago. First, To make super light and fluffy ones-- nutrition must go out the door. (I do make them healthy from time to time but this gang would rather have old-fashioned.) Second, NO OIL, only shortening. Third, use a little extra shortening. It is the key to light and lovely biscuits. Fourth, don't over knead.

Any basic recipe from a self-rising flour bag will work if you use those tips and then baste on some melted butter.

I cooked biscuits every morning for about 2 weeks until I 'got it'. But if I don't make them for a while, well, I sort of have to learn all over again!

Hope all is well on the farm!
That explains the homemade butter that you talked about!!!

Blessings!
